Why did we start Pontem Analytics, who are we, and where are we going?

By this time, we’ve all heard a phrase similar to the one above. Data is everywhere, and the rate at which we produce data as a society is growing (exponentially).
We believe statements like this are true. Data can unlock great value, it can inform decisions, and it can ultimately be the difference between success and failure for a business.
But there’s a missing aspect to these statements…
Anyone that has stared at rows of data before knows that the value in data does not simply reveal itself. Leveraging data for insights requires two fundamental things:
A set of skills that can process and make sense of the data
Experience and knowledge in the discipline from which the data originated
This is why we formed Pontem Analytics. To provide the complete set of services required to help businesses make the best decisions they can, utilizing all the information they have.
Derived from the Latin word for “bridge”, Pontem’s mission is to empower the decision makers of tomorrow by bridging the gap between data and discipline.
Data is valuable. Discipline is valuable. But when combined, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Our vision at Pontem is to unlock knowledge beyond the limits of human performance.
When spreadsheets were first introduced in the 1980’s, they revolutionized the way businesses operated. Suddenly, people had the ability to organize and analyze an amount of data they were never used to dealing with before. It wasn’t long before they became an indispensable tool for businesses of all sizes.
We believe that a similar paradigm shift is occurring right now. Tools like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain are poised to have the same transformative effect on businesses that spreadsheets did when they were first introduced. However, how best to unleash these technologies is not as straightforward.
Pontem seeks to serve as a liaison for those looking to embrace these new technologies. Armed with the knowledge when to use them, and most importantly, how to use them, Pontem helps businesses to leverage these technologies to improve key decision making, ultimately leading to increased efficiency and profitability.

Where are we going?
We have deep roots in the energy industry and we plan to not just continue our work there, but to grow across disciplines. As we looked at other industries, we saw the similar types of problems being faced.
How can lifespan and quality of life be improved by combining personal health data with cutting edge research?
How can sports performance be improved by integrating biomechanics to optimize motion?
How can agriculture output be improved while minimizing chemical and water usage?
These are the questions we have asked ourselves only to realize that they all can be solved by leveraging data and discipline. That is why in the coming weeks we will be talking about Pontem’s growth and expansion into additional industries.
